3. Sushi-Gen – Order their sashimi dinner. $29 gets you appetizer salads, miso soup, tempura, and a mixed sashimi dinner which always has the best tuna you’ve ever tasted. Lunch special is only $15 for the same great deal.
422 E 2nd St, Los Angeles, CA‎ - (213) 617-0552‎

4. Asia de Cuba – Sits on the roof of the famous Mondrian Hotel. The ambience is romantic with its skyline view of LA, unfortunately the food is not as unforgettable. Nevertheless, a date here will undoubtedly win you points.
8440 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA‎ - (323) 848-6000‎

5. Daikokuya – the best Japanese ramen you will EVER taste
327 E 1st St, Los Angeles, CA‎ - (213) 626-1680‎ - www.daikoku-ten.com

7. The Boiling Crab – New Orleans style seafood. Order the mixed special sauce and the corona beer and enjoy the fun and youthful atmosphere. My favorites are the crawfish and shrimp.
742 W Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA‎ - (626) 576-9368‎ - www.theboilingcrab.com/

8. Redondo Beach – Order live crab or any kind of seafood imaginable and enjoy the beach. Pick any kind of fresh fish and have it grilled (yummy!) or fried. I like Oceanside Sea Food because you won’t have to fight for a table, but anywhere you go will be fresh.
100 Fishermans Wharf # F, Redondo Beach, CA‎ - (310) 376-2244‎

————————————————————————–

So the WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS are finally here. The two top teams in the west have made it and i’ll be watching swarms of Laker fans walking by my loft next to LA live. I’m not the biggest Laker fan but i want them to win so i can see the 2 top players in the NBA go at it during the finals. I’m assuming the CAV’s will dominate the Magic and the Lakers will pull a slight victory over the hot Nuggets. Two of my friends John and Francis will be attending the game tonight with tickets they got for $175 on Craigs List (sec 205). Face value on these are $165 so not too bad for game 1 of the western conference finals.

It will be an interesting week in downtown LA and i’m sure LA live will be very busy for the next few days. Lot of place to eat there if your interested. I would recommend RockNFish or the Farm to eat. If your looking for drinks and bar food, the Yard House has some pretty good deals during happy hour which i think starts around 10pm. Also, check out the Pantry on 9th and Figueroa if your looking for a nice old fashion meal.

Anyway, just starting this site and I’m your friend in LA if you’re looking for any activities to do if in town and visiting. We’ll be doing reviews on some of our favorite restaurants and spots here so when you come down to LA, you get to pick from the BEST spots in town! Meanwhile, most of you all will be cheering for that purple and gold so good luck with Denver and I hope my Clippers get a 1 or 2 draft pick this year! GRIFFIN OR RUBIO BABY!!! COME ON!!!!!

Welcome, friends to yourfriendinla.com! This site is dedicated to all our out of town friends that are looking for things to do when they visit our humble city of Los Angeles. We have a couple of us that have been eating some good food for the last few years and checking out some great spots here in LA and would like to share our findings with ya’ll. Look forward to our reviews of restaurants, bars, activities and more as we build this thing out. We actually thought of this idea while together at lunch and figured, we could do a quick review of all the spots we like so our friends and family could see a list of places we thought were good. I always get hit up by people that come into the area anyway about places they should go and now I can just be like “go to yfila.com” so it’s kind of a lazy thing I guess as well.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the site and look forward to eating some good food and checking out more interesting places in LA for you guys to see as well.

Our first taste of Hawaiian Chicken was disappointment. YFILA decided to try it out on a Thursday, which we found out is their one day off during the work week (they’re also closed on Sundays).

We’re glad that we ended up making our way back, though - the food was great. The menu is notably small, but what did you expect from a place called ‘Hawaiian Chicken’?

They’re supposedly famous for their ‘Huli Huli Chicken’, so we ordered a whole chicken of it. The chicken itself is delicious on its own with its thin, crispy skin and moist, flavorful meat. What really makes the dish is their spicy dipping sauce. Be sure to ask for extra sauce when ordering, in fact.

We also tried the shoyu chicken and kalbi combo. The shoyu chicken was definitely the better of the two. It’s little more than grilled marinated chicken, but actually tastes like it just came off the grill at a Hawaiian cookout. The kalbi wasn’t bad, but there is better kalbi to be had in LA.

All of the main dishes are served ‘plate lunch’ style, with rice and salad (either macaroni or green). Macaroni salad has a tendency to be bland, but Hawaiian Chicken’s ended up being surprisingly tasty. One nice touch is the plate of oranges you get at the end of the meal.

Hawaiian Chicken offers an interesting twist on lunch, and is recommended if you’re interested in trying something a little bit different. To sweeten the deal, check out their website before going to get a 10% off coupon.

One possible solution to this would be to offer, on the side, the special garlic soy sauce only Kyo Chon seems to offer.

On the other hand, I must say I enjoyed the ‘Chicken Dduk Bboki’ even though it was spicier than I would have liked it to be as well as the Chicken Fried Rice. They should rename it to be called Chicken Curry Fried Rice since I could taste a strong hint of curry flavoring…

Bottom line?

The food was decent, pricing was fair, service was a plus… give me more garlic soy sauce.
